Mighty draw resistance: check the whole airflow path
Share
Mighty draw resistance can be frustrating when you have already cleaned the cooling unit. Before blaming the mouthpiece or ordering replacements, consider the complete airflow path: mouthpiece, cooling unit, screens, filling chamber and the device's air inlet.
A popular Reddit PSA from Mighty owners offers a useful reminder. One original Mighty owner reported that restriction persisted after cleaning the cooling unit and traced it to a blocked air intake. The older post attracted substantial support and replies from owners who recognised the problem. That makes it a worthwhile diagnostic clue, rather than proof that every tight draw has the same cause. The thread does not confirm whether this applies identically to the Mighty+.
Why a clean cooling unit may still feel restricted
Cleaning one component cannot rule out an obstruction elsewhere. Residue inside the cooling unit, material across a screen, a blocked mouthpiece or an overly compressed load can each leave airflow feeling restricted. The Mighty+ manual explicitly warns that overfilling or excessive compression makes inhalation harder.
Work through the accessible parts before spending money. Switch off, disconnect the power supply and allow the device to cool before maintenance. Follow the instructions for your exact model; a similar-looking accessory is not enough to establish compatibility.
Start with the mouthpiece and cooling unit
- Inspect the mouthpiece. Look for visible residue or loose material obstructing its passage. Clean it as part of the cooling-unit procedure, rather than assuming a different mouthpiece will fix the draw.
- Check the whole cooling unit. A quick rinse is not the same as disassembling its removable components. Follow S&B's illustrated disassembly instructions, including removing the cap lock before cleaning the cap with isopropyl alcohol.
- Reassemble carefully. Let cleaned parts dry completely. Seat the seal rings correctly and fit the screen into its intended groove. Check for cracks or other damage while the components are apart.
S&B provides warm dishwater and isopropyl-alcohol cleaning options for the removable parts, with specific rinsing and soaking instructions. Follow those limits in the linked guidance; do not soak the assembled device. Cleaning the detachable cooling unit is separate from cleaning the housing.

Check screens and the filling chamber
Inspect the cooling-unit screen and the lower filling-chamber screen separately. A clean-looking chamber wall does not establish that the mesh is clear. S&B recommends brushing both screens after each use, and its Mighty+ manual says a clogged screen must be replaced.
Replace a damaged screen too, and use the correct type for its position. Do not choose a different mesh simply because it sounds like an airflow upgrade. The Mighty accessories and replacement parts collection is useful for comparing listings once you know which component needs attention.
For chamber residue, the Mighty+ manual specifies a cotton swab moistened with isopropyl alcohol, without excessive wetting. Keep liquid from dripping into the device. Follow the model's screen-removal instructions rather than improvising inside the chamber.

Review grind, packing and dosing capsules
If restriction appears with material loaded, review preparation before changing parts. Use evenly ground dry herb rather than a load dominated by powder, and avoid pressing it into a dense plug. Follow your manual's filling guidance and clear excess material from the rim so the cooling unit seats correctly.
Glass dosing capsules can make loading more consistent, but they are not a cure for a blocked airflow path. Check the capsule itself for residue and avoid compressing its contents. Changing the grind, packing and accessories together also makes it harder to identify what helped; adjust one thing at a time.

Include the air inlet, then know when to stop
The device's air inlet belongs on the checklist even after the upper components are clean. S&B warns against covering air vents during use or cooling. Check your manual for model-specific identification: the official pages reviewed here do not clearly locate the intake described in the owner's report.
Keep inspection external. Do not insert objects into the device, use compressed air or open the body. If you suspect a blockage inside the housing, contact Storz & Bickel service. Describe what you cleaned, whether restriction changes with loading, and whether it began after maintenance.
S&B's troubleshooting page also describes a detached cooling-unit leak test for absent vapour. That checks sealing, not intake blockage. Persistent unexplained resistance deserves service advice rather than repeated accessory purchases.
Quick airflow checklist
- Mouthpiece passage and cooling-unit channels clean?
- Both screens clear, undamaged and correctly seated?
- Chamber clean, with no excessive compression?
- Cleaned parts dry and seals fitted correctly?
- Air inlet considered, with internal blockage referred to S&B?
